Now more than ever is it important to take care of your mental health. Being separated from our loved ones, limiting our time out of the home, and difficulties with finances, health, and relationships all contribute to strain on mental health.

Though society has come a long way in recent years, there can still be a lot of stigma associated with mental health and illness. If your loved ones or community are not equipped or used to addressing mental health, it can be scary to speak up.

So let us assure you today: it’s okay to not be okay. Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, and there are probably many people you know who struggle with it (about half of North American adults will struggle with mental illness in their lifetime). Addressing mental illness, regardless of the severity, can help you move towards overall health and even a flourishing life.

To take the first step towards better, stronger mental health, consider telling someone you know how you’re feeling. If you don’t have someone you feel comfortable talking to, consider seeking professional help. Edmonton has many different counselling clinics and private counsellors, some with sliding payment scales to help lower the cost.
